Birthday photos coming....
BTW, as you know I like to post old photos each week. I’ve decided to try and dig out a photo from each birthday since my 20th birthday as a little salute to the next zero birthday coming up. Stay tuned.
Oh and btw, our lives haven’t changed that much since we were 20. Wendy emailed me last night to say that she had her 30th birthday party this past Saturday. She took Monday off work in anticipation of how big her Saturday night was going to be. So smart! A 20 year old may not have thought that far ahead. Anyway, she didn’t get home until 6am Sunday.
That’s my girl!
I'm not a lady
I was walking down a hallway at work today and spotted The Global Etiquette Guide to Europe on a book shelf. I looked around and swiped it while no one was looking. As expected, I found this gem in it.
Under the ‘England’ section, it tells me that it is not lady-like for a woman to order and drink a pint of beer.
I screen all my phone calls (even for work). If I don’t know the number I won’t answer. Sometimes I don’t answer even when I do know who it is. That’s what voicemail is for, right?
Someone just called me from Switzerland. Weird.
Bonus
I am being advised of my bonus and pay-rise at 6.20pm today. Last year I went straight out and bought myself a Kenneth Cole leather jacket as a present-to-myself and jammed the rest into savings. I’m pretty sure there will be no present-to-myself buying this year.
Damn you, economy.
I suppose I should be thankful to have a job. I read in a newspaper this morning that the number of...
To do lists
I like to be organized at work and rely heavily on my to do lists. I have a ‘master file to do list’ in excel with a tab for each client. I go through the tabs each morning and write on a piece of paper the list of items I want to achieve that very day.
I’m bored of it.
Can anyone suggest a good online tool I can use instead?
I just read my Book Club book. I cried.
Cupcakes (again)
My birthday is 2 weeks tomorrow and I will be in Vegas for it. So I spent the last 10 minutes researching cupcake hotspots in Vegas. I was going to blog about what I had found and then decided against it because I blog far too much about cupcakes. As I hit cancel on my blog post Jen's conversation below showed up on my dashboard. Glad I'm not the only who is obsessed. Seriously, what is it about cupcakes that has us all so crazy about them?!
Me: I want a cupcake. I wish I could get one delivered right now.
Ro: You're addicted, seriously.
My name is George
My name can be shortened to so many different nicknames. There are a number of people who only ever call me Georgie as I went through a phase in my life when I insisted on only ever being introduced to people as Georgie. I got sick of that name so when I moved to England I insisted on people calling me George for short instead.
For whatever reason I haven’t really insisted on people...
Palin
Thanks go to Melissa of forever-insatiable for telling me where to find an Obama tshirt on my way home last night. I stopped by Urban Outfitters on the Upper West Side. They have really cool stuff in there and so I had to restrain myself from buying anything else. I liked Melissa’s post below and if you can bear it you should click on the link for the Couric/Palin interview. I watched it...
Would you rather?
Berry asked me a good question last night. Would you rather:
Have enough money to buy anything you currently wanted
Have no desire for material things
I thought about it for a minute and opted for number 2 because no matter how much money you earn you always want and ‘need’ more. The freedom of desire for material things would be a wonderful and permanent release. I earn 4...
How much is enough?
We were talking about the $250,000 threshold above which Obama wants to tax people additionally.
Me: $250,000 is too low
Berry: If you can make $100,000 in NYC then you can totally get by
Me: No way! No you can't. $100,000 is not enough.
Berry: You buy $600 shoes. That's why you can't get by.
Me: Oh, good point.
Foreign Policy
Moderator (to Obama): How do you see the relationship with Russia?
Me (on behalf of Obama): I can't see it. I don't live in Alaska
Obama T-shirt needed
I’ve been invited to a get together tonight to watch the Debate (which scaredy cat McCain has now decided he will attend). I received a second email shortly after the first invitation with this:
PS: Prizes for anyone in an Obama tshirt. Two prizes if it incorporates a halo of some sort.
Now, I am stuck in the middle of nowhere at a client and of course I definitely want to win a prize...
This book was FANTASTIC.
The whole not working until midnight, being able to go the gym and read books in the evenings, is so great. I’m really not looking forward to becoming uber-busy again at work. Proof that work should never ever consume you. It’s so not worth it to me.
I spoke way too soon.
I’m putting the honey on my face now. Desperate times, people.
An email from Berry today
So it looks like the debate on Friday night is going to get cancelled. I was pretty stoked to hang out and watch this. Now without it I will be forced to go out. It’s like John McCain is FORCING me to be drunk and disorderly
Cupcake dilemma
I received the following email from reader Cathy. I love a good cupcake dilemma to solve!
I am sending my friend to Crumbs to get me some of the SATC cosmo cupcakes, but I just had this sudden thought-what if they are gross? Is that possible? Maybe he should get me backup flavors? Or just some of each to be safe? If I am getting Crumbs brought to me, then I need to make sure I love them and...
Quadrupled booked
OK, it turns out I have not double-booked myself on Thursday. I have quadruple booked myself. I’ve already mentioned:
Personal training session at 7pm
Work drinks at a fancy bar 6-9pm. Free work drinks at a fancy bar.
Then I received a text from Jess today saying she is going to a particular class at our gym that I am dying to try and asking if I want to join her. Hells yeah! And...
Gym or free drinks
I managed to double book myself on Thursday night. I have to decide between the following:
Personal training session at 7pm
Work drinks at a fancy bar 6-9pm. Free work drinks at a fancy bar.
I think I want to do the personal training session more. Crazy, huh? I did mention the drinks are free, right? And that I would prefer to go the gym. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me...
