Cyber Monday and Leopards and Cheetahs
Yesterday I was all “Oh, I’m going to buy all my presents on Cyber Monday and save tons of money”. Here is what I bought:
Was it on sale? Yes. Is it a present? Yes. A present for me!!
When we were in South Africa we got quite close to a leopard and I couldn’t stop thinking about how beautiful his fur was and how badly I needed more leopard print clothing in my...

South Africa: Thanksgiving
I hope you are all having a wonderful Thanksgiving, rugging yourselves up against the cold, and eating loads of turkey.
We had a very non-traditional Thanksgiving. I think perhaps a non-traditional Thanksgiving will become a tradition for our family given the fact that we are not Americans. This year we had a wonderful day with Berry and her parents in their beach town in Knysna in the Western...

South Africa: The Wedding Part 2
We have so few family photos so we made sure to get one as soon as we arrived. After freezing our tails off for the last couple of days, the sun came out and shined down on us.
My little chicken was well behaved throughout the wedding. She clearly has FOMO (fear of missing out) because she didn’t pass out until after 10pm. I don’t know how we got so lucky with this angel baby.

South Africa: Cape Town Acquarium
I’d heard really great things about the acquarium in Cape Town and now that Charlotte is so fascinated by animals I figured she would enjoy it. In fact, I completely under-estimated just how much she would enjoy it. She loved it!
The acquarium is really great and well worth a visit if you have kiddies. Or even if you don’t!

South Africa: Penguin colony at Boulders Beach
The guide book was right when it said ‘colony’. There were loads of penguins hanging about on the beach.
Charlotte was enchanted by the penguin colony at Boulders Beach. She was giggling and squirming around in my arms.
One thing I’ve learned on this trip is that it’s never too soon to introduce new experiences to her.

South Africa: Welcome Drinks
Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa! We are here to celebrate the wedding of our good friends Marc and Katy.
Last night they hosted a welcome reception at a fantastic beach bar. Instead of wearing the pretty one shouldered cocktail dress that I brought with me I wore pants and a jacket because it is FREEZING here. Yup, Summer in Africa. Who knew it would be so cold.
Anyway, thought I...
What I hadn’t realized is that you fall in love with your own children....

Time
Where does it go?
When I was a child time seemed to almost stand still. A school day took forever. The summer holidays stretched on and on (in a good way).
Once I got to adulthood things picked up. The days started passing in a more timely fashion. Once I started working after university, the days literally flew by. I did what nearly everyone in a corporate job does - live for the...

Books Books Books
I have read absolutely stacks of books in recent weeks. And all of them have been so good. Here are just a few.
The Art of Racing in the Rain is told from the perspective of a dog. I couldn’t put this book down and when I wasn’t reading it I was thinking about it. And looking at Winston and wondering what he was thinking!
Commencement was a book that reminded me of a college...

Fall Pot Luck
I went to a get Fall pot luck get together with a few bloggers on Sunday night hosted by Casey. I loved meeting some new blog-turned-real-life friends.
Ten points if you can spot Winston in the photo. Here’s a hint - he’s the one stealing a kiss from Lady.
And, the cupcakes. Oh my! I was so full I took one to go and ate it on Monday morning with a cup of tea. So so good....

I Can't Live Without.....
When I first had Charlotte I did a bunch of posts about the products that I couldn’t live without. The kind of products that make me smile like this:
I’ve had a number of emails recently from readers telling me that they found the posts really useful and so I thought I would go back and see if I still felt the same way about those products now that Charlotte is 7 months old (on...

Bib
Charlotte’s nanny is full of great ideas and suggestions. Last week she asked me to buy a water-proof bib that can be washed off in the sink or even thrown in the dishwasher.
Great idea.
In theory.
The problem is that instead of concentrating on eating the food, Charlotte spends all her time chewing on the bib.
I’m back to using fabric-based bibs.

Charlotte's First Halloween
Bonjour, mon cherie!!!!
We started our Halloween celebrations at music class on Saturday afternoon. In keeping with the French theme we had lunch in a French restaurant on the UWS after music class where Charlotte attempted eating her outfit’s main prop.
We continued the Halloween celebrations with a brunch on Sunday for Auntie Jen’s birthday.
If anyone needs the name of an...
