March 2010
It’s going to be tough to type but I’m wearing the mits all day...
– John is really going to milk the Canadian win for everything it’s worth.
February 2010
Canada wins the hockey gold medal
The Canadian mittens came in very handy today.
One happy Canadian.
A celebratory drink.

How I know my pregnancy is almost at an end
I’ve been ‘window shopping’ on my favorite online stores - the kind that don’t feature maternity clothes.
4 weeks 4 days.
Saturday in Pictures
This morning we headed to Central Park and watched sledding. The thing about being pregnant - you get to WATCH people do fun stuff all the time. Drinking, skiing, sledding, sushi-eating, Vespa-riding…..
This is Berry (the South African) going down the baby slope. She left the big slope to the experts (the 4 year old Americans). Photo stolen from Facebook. I am a thief. But an honest...

Another day, another baby thingy to make
Every day this week a box arrived with last minute baby goodies. Today, the bouncer arrived.
I think John enjoys figuring out how to put it all together.
Finished product. OH MY GOD I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL THERE IS A REAL LIVE SQUIRMY BABY ON THE OUTSIDE OF MY BODY THAT I CAN PUT IN THIS CONTRAPTION!!!!

Snowballs
I came home a bit early from work today and so we took Winston out into our snow covered backyard.
We both nearly died laughing at him trying to get through the snow. He was so weighed down with snowballs attached to his fur that he could barely move.
It was straight into a warm bath to melt those snowballs off. I’ve never met a dog who loves snow as much as Winston.

Winston - the practice baby
I was minding my own business yesterday working in our home office when John asked me to call the dog. This is what wandered around the corner.
John had attempted putting a diaper on him but failed. So put it on his head instead.
It looks like he’s been through the wars and has a bandage on his head.
The biggest medal haul by Australia at a single Winter Olympics.
– A line from an article on the Sydney Morning Herald. Three medals is not what I would call a ‘haul’. But still. Go Australia!
It's not fair
A little break in my regular schedule of ‘happy’ posts:
Last night on my second trip to the bathroom I started crafting a blog post in my head to whinge about how awful the constant need to pee is. About two sentences in, I stopped. I remembered the stories that I have stumbled across this past week and realized I was the luckiest person in the entire world. I have no right to...

We hate baby class
John: Are we going to baby class tonight?
Me: No.
John: Really?
Me: Oh I don't know. What do you think?
John: There's a gold medal hockey game on tonight.
Me: Since when do you care about women's hockey?
John: Since today.

Goodbye to a good night's sleep
On Sunday night amongst the two wake up calls to visit the loo, the multiple wake up calls to heave my pregnant body from my left side to my right side and back again, and the two dog-related wake up calls (Winston was barking in a dream for god’s sake), the following thought came to mind.
I can’t wait to not be pregnant and get a good night’s sleep.
It was rapidly followed by...

Am I a Mommy Blogger? HELL NO! Or maybe yes?
I remember having a conversation with a friend a little over a year ago about what would happen to my blog once I had a baby. I figured there were two options – I would stop blogging or the focus of my blog would change and I would become a Mommy Blogger. At the time I couldn’t think of a worse term than Mommy Blogger. It doesn’t sound like something I would ever want to label myself...

My bed….my sanctuary from the world…..my place of solace has become a breeding...
– Brooke who designed my website is also pregnant with her first baby (and incidentally due the same day as me, I believe). The quote above is from her husband. It made me burst out laughing because I’m sure John feels the same way about how I have taken over the bed with my bump and pillows -...
I spoil my dog
Last week I popped into the pet store to pick up one bag of dog treats. Just one bag.
This is what I came home with.
Less than 24 hours later the ladybug was missing her nose and ears.
Parenting Ideals
I read the article below on Mamamia. It made me laugh because John and I are adamant about so many things (especially food) yet I’m sure it will all go out the window once we actually become parents.
It’s so easy to have parenting ideals before you actually have kids. Because, you know, there’s no actual reality to challenge you. You can wax lyrical about organic food, no junk food, not...

I'm never alone
This morning I am heading back down to Pennsylvania for work. You know how I feel about work travel. BOO HISS work travel.
But I forgot to tell you one thing.
I may be away from John and Winston but at least I’m not alone. I have Charlotte with me. Yup, she comes everywhere with me so technically I’m never alone. It’s a very comforting thought.
The boys are at home and...

Tory Burch
A designer that I really like these days is Tory Burch. Her stuff is also too expensive for me but I do have a pair of these sunnies that I love. Mine are black though - seen here. The black ones sold out after Rachel Zoe recommended them on her daily email.
As an aside, I was recently told I look like Tory Burch. I look nothing like her. She doesn’t have a stupid fringe for starters....

Heidi Hair
I had my hair cut and colored yesterday. I originally was going to get this Heidi cut:
And ended up going with this Heidi cut (without the layers - HATE layers):
Oh yes, I have a major fringe. Funnily enough, it doesn’t look as good on me as it does on Heidi. Is she not the most beautiful woman in the ENTIRE world? I love her. And hate my fringe.

It sounds like a baby straightjacket.
– I just finished explaining what swaddling is to my colleague and this was his response. Berry said exactly the same thing at my Baby Shower. It’s a fairly apt description actually.
For those that don’t know, swaddling is when you wrap up a baby in a blanket so its arms are tucked in...

Mommy Friends
I received an email yesterday from a good friend in England. She emailed to tell me she is pregnant. I’m so happy for her! But at the same time, it reminded me that I don’t have any Mommy friends who live less than 5,000 miles away.
I adore the friends that I do have here in New York and I also know that they are as excited as I am for Charlotte to arrive. I think they might...
Winter Olympics - obsessed
I am obsessed with the Winter Olympics. I think NBC has done a surprisingly good job of the coverage (although let’s not discuss the despicable act of showing the Georgian luger’s death on the 6.30 news) and the background stories they do on the various competitors gives me reason to cheer for people I’ve never even heard of before. I also appreciate the fact that it...
CR is preparing for landing.
– My Mum’s comment in response to my latest update for her - Charlotte has turned from the uncomfortable sideways position she was in and is now head down. Yay!
Six more weeks today, people. I’m on the countdown.
Why don’t you go sit on Mommy. There’s more square footage.
– John to Winston.
What are you giving up for Lent?
I was raised Catholic but am in no way religious. I do enjoy a bit of ‘giving something up for Lent’ though.
Want to know what I’m giving up this year?
Alcohol.
WHAT? That’s not cheating!
