Suburbs v City
Now that we have a baby about to appear any day, we have been thinking about Our Future. Do we want to stay in NYC?  Do we want to move to another city?  Do we want to move to the suburbs and continue working in NYC? On Saturday we decided to investigate the suburbs that are just outside the city. We drove out to a gorgeous town in Connecticut called New Canaan to poke around a few houses.  I...

“When is the baby coming?”
– First words out of John’s mouth this morning.  It’s impossible for us to think about anything else right now.

H&M Garden Collection
In all my walking-miles-a-day-to-induce-baby mania of last week, I couldn’t help but notice all the advertising in the city for the new Garden Collection at H&M. I’m not an H&M fan.  I find a lot of their clothing to be really poor quality.  Which is fine when it’s really cheap but H&M is not always that cheap. However, when I saw pretty dresses like this one...

An Artist in Soho
When John first moved to New York he bought the painting that hangs above our couch from an artist called Hulbert Waldroup who sells his paintings on the street in Soho.   I’ve loved the painting since the day we started dating and think it really brings the living room together. (V, please note the wall color!). When John bought the painting back in 2004, the artist randomly told him...

You guys, the waiting is killing me
I have never had much patience.  But this waiting-for-labor-to-start business is killing me. I can’t wait to meet her. I can’t wait to hold her. I can’t wait to kiss her. I can’t wait to feed her. I can’t wait until everything has calmed down and I can lay her down on the bed and simply look at every inch of her little body.

Levain Bakery
I’m doing my utmost to walk this baby out of me.  On Tuesday I walked well over 50 blocks which is about 2 1/2 miles.  On this particular walking trip I stopped in at Levain Bakery on the Upper West Side to see what the fuss is about. I bought myself a Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip and John a Chocolate Chip Walnut and an Oatmeal Raisin.  I sat on the bench above and nibbled on my...

Ergo Baby Carrier
The Ergo Baby Carrier is on sale today on babysteals.com for 45 - 48% off.  That is a MAJOR bargain.  John did the research on this one and concluded that this carrier is way better than the Baby Bjorn ( I couldn’t tell you why because as I said this was John’s project). On the weekend I went into Giggle and was thisclose to buying a sling - it had been on my list as a...

Pediatrician
Today I did something that made me feel like a bit of a wanker.  A neurotic NY mommy-to-be wanker. I interviewed a prospective pediatrician.   Anyway, I’m glad I did because dude was 100 shades of awkward. Instead I’m going with another pediatrician that came highly recommended by a reader.  Unsurprisingly, Hell’s Kitchen is not exactly the hub of all things children- related...

thebluehour asked: Besides being able to hold baby in your arms, what are you most looking forward to about not being pregnant (ie: some doctors say you can't eat coldcuts while pregnant, this would in fact, kill me, as sandwiches are my favorite food)?

Blogging Injury
You guys!   I just sustained my first blogging injury!!  It even produced blood. I was answering reader emails and accidentally tipped my laptop up too high slamming it directly into my nose.   Who knew blogging could be so dangerous…..

Healthcare Overhaul
I feel as though I have been bombarded with news about the healthcare overhaul for the last year and yet I never really understood what the ‘overhaul’ would entail.  I figured any plan that extends coverage to the millions that are currently uninsured had to be a good thing and should be voted in.  So I crossed my fingers all day yesterday hoping that enough support would be obtained....

Friday
Today the weather in NYC is perfect.  Sunny and 71F / 21C.   After spending 80% of yesterday in bed feeling like death warmed up thanks to a pretty awful cold, I have more than made up for it today. After a much-needed pedicure (bright pink nail polish was selected!), John and I went out for lunch at Eatery.  It was so warm we were able to sit outside.  He had a burger and I had a mushroom,...

So I finally packed my hospital bag
My friends have been urging me to pack my hospital bags for the last few weeks and I keep telling them that going into labor is not like in the movies.  I can pack my hospital bag once my contractions start because I’m going to have HOURS to kill at home before it’s actually time to head to the hospital. Although, my doctor told me a crazy story today. His patient called him...
