Pasta Sauce
Oh, look at me - I’m a cook now!  Which means I try new things.  Jen has been raving about the Pasta Sauce recipe she found on Smitten Kitchen.  When I found out it has only three ingredients and simply requires you to bung it all in a pot and swish it around for a bit, I was sold. Ingredient 1 Smitten Kitchen recommends the brand San Marzano.  And who am I to argue with her?! ...

Weekend Recap: Cooking Lesson #1
My birthday cooking lessons started on the weekend.   Now, this is not meant to be a competition between my friends but let me just say that Jen is off to a very strong start.  She taught me how to cook an Asian Beef Noodle dish.  ZOMG IT IS SO TASTY.  Both John and I loved this meal and we both ate seconds.  And then I cooked it by myself the very next night and John had third helpings - I think...

Weekend Recap: Music Class
A couple of months ago I attended a Mom’s Luncheon on the Upper West Side and I won the lucky door prize.  It was a prize not to be sniffed at - an entire semester of music classes at Hands On 4 Music.  Classes started a couple of weeks ago and I think they are really great.  Lots of music, singing, different instruments to play with (and chew on!) and interaction with the other babies.   ...

This is what happens when John is put in charge of feeding.  Also, not sure why these peas look so radioactive.

Laughing baby
The number one goal in my life is to make Charlotte laugh.  After spending the last 2 months doing everything in my power to get her to laugh and only occasionally getting one short giggle out of her, today she laughed her head off for 10 solid minutes because Winston was barking.  I normally shush Winston when he starts barking incessantly but this time I encouraged it!   Bark, Winston, bark!   ...

My Chickadee Diaper Clutch - Reader Giveaway
My Chickadee recently sent me one of their hand-made diaper clutches.  Before it arrived I was like, um, what is a diaper clutch?  Well, it’s a compact bag that fits everything you could possibly need for an outing, including a built-in changing pad.  Sounded too good to be true. There are two interior pockets - the first pocket can hold six diapers and an extra outfit and the second pocket...

Weekend Recap: Swings (and some thoughts on...
I remember being very emotional during my first 2 weeks as a mother.  I desperately wanted to freeze time.  I didn’t want Charlotte to grow up.  I wanted her to stay as a newborn baby and bottle the amazing feelings of love I had for her.  She was just so perfect and I was so happy.  I thought life could not get better than during that newborn phase and so I didn’t want time to pass....

Weekend recap: Shopping
This weekend I did some major shopping - new work duds and new Fall/Winter casual duds.   You know what’s awesome?  When you are on your way to the dressing room with a pair of jeans in hand and the sales associate stops you when he sees the size you are carrying and says “Oh honey, you’re smaller than that” and goes scurrying off to the back room to get a smaller size.   ...

Weekend Recap: My nanny quit
My nanny quit.  Before she even started working for us.  And only two weeks before I’m due back at work.   So I’m back to the drawing board.  I put it to the back of my mind over the weekend but will be hitting the nanny postings tomorrow in search of my Mary Poppins.  I went to a nanny seminar a few months ago and learned that it generally takes four weeks to find and employ a nanny....

Birthday Present
It’s my birthday in one month and I’ve already sent out a birthday present request to my friends. This year I don’t want a physical gift. I’ve asked for something far more valuable. A one-on-one cooking lesson from each of them. Prior to having Charlotte we ate out at restaurants about 5 times a week. We cooked at home maybe three times a month. Now that we have...

Mougins
One evening last week we headed to a small village called Mougins well-known for its art and gastronomic delights.  Picasso spent the last 12 years of his life living just outside the village whilst keeping a studio in what is now the visitor’s center. We didn’t really know what to expect and upon arrival there were a number of WOWs uttered.  Another beautiful village surrounded by...

Trading punches
Today we hung out with our friends from Boston who also have a baby girl.  Charlotte and Carolina stared each other down until Carolina threw the first punch.  A right fist-er directly to the jaw. The punch resulted in this face: Not pictured: Charlotte applied a rear naked choke to Carolina and totally won the fight.* *this part did not really happen but illustrates the fact that I am...

Exploring the Var
We took a tour around in the car the other day and wandered the streets of a couple of villages. We had lunch at an outdoor cafe. I was feeling under the weather ( too much vin rouge the previous evening, ahem ) and a big bowl of pasta was just what I needed. Somewhere in the Var (too hungover to care), France
