Weekend: Chopsticks
We have gotten to the point that Charlotte will only eat food served to her on a chopstick when we go out for sushi. So on Friday we had to spear edamame, pieces of turkey, and raspberries.

Cooking class
On Saturday Jen and I went to a cooking class. It was my birthday present from Jen. We learned to cook a bunch of Tuscan food. And I would tell you the exact menu but that would mean getting up off my couch and fetching the menu from the kitchen counter. That’s at least 10 steps away. And it’s Monday night and I’m tired and I’m work-stressed and I just want to sit here and...

Weekend: Baking
On Sunday I baked. And baked. I had to do something with all of the apples we picked on Saturday. First I made dough and chucked it in the fridge for an hour. Next I made an apple crisp using this recipe. John said it was good (I’m not a fan of apple crisp so I made it just for him). And then I brought the dough back out of the fridge and made the apple pie cookies created by Smitten...

Weekend: Apple picking / pumpkin patching
You know what I love about Americans? Their enthusiasm. As soon as the Fall arrives everyone goes crazy for all things pumpkin. I am no longer surprised by what Americans can flavor with pumpkin. I can’t help but be infected by the enthusiasm. Plus I have an American daughter so I’m enjoying adopting all of these American traditions as my own. So that was a long winded first paragraph...

Chicago: Hazel
And finally, a blog post about the highlight of my weekend in Chicago: meeting baby Hazel (and catching up with Emily and Simon). She is just cute as a button and so sweet-natured.  And perhaps the best dressed baby I’ve ever encountered.  You guys, I peeked in Hazel’s closet and I am envious of all her gorgeous dresses and shoes! We introduced Charlotte and Hazel on Saturday...

Chicago: The Bean
You know what’s not awesome? Your toddler deciding that 5am makes a fine time to get up. You know what’s really awesome? That 5am wake up time resulting in you getting The Bean all to yourself.  Not another tourist in sight.   High five Charlotte! (All these photos were taken by Jen - isn’t the first one amazing)

Chicago: The Skydeck
There were only two tourist items on my list for Chicago (when you have a toddler in tow you have to be realistic about how much you can jam into a weekend away) - The Bean in Millenium Park and the Skydeck.   So…on Sunday evening a few hours after the Marathon we headed up to the 103rd floor of the Skydeck.  I wouldn’t say I’m afraid of heights but it was a bit overwhelming...

Tracy Dort Kyne
We recently heard that a childhood friend of John’s (that lived on the street where he grew up) had a serious biking accident a few weeks ago leaving her with a life-changing C3/C4 spinal cord injury.  Similar to Christopher Reeve’s injury, she is now paralyzed from the neck down.  The injury will not only have a devastating impact on her life, but also on the lives of the three sons she has been...

Chicago: Marathon
I have a few posts up my sleeve about my weekend in Chicago.  And now I just need to get them out of my sleeve and onto my blog.  Where do people find the time to write lengthy blog posts?  I barely have time to upload one line items from my iPhone. Anyway. Why did I go to Chicago?  To cheer on this girl. I headed over to Emily & Simon’s apartment for a 7am party and shortly after...

High heels
My 18 month walks better in high heels than I do.  Seriously, these photos are not for show.  She really does walk around the apartment wearing my shoes.

Two thoughts
Tomorrow I’m flying to Chicago - yippee!  I get to see Emily and baby Hazel and some other favorite bloggers (I hope!) and play tourist with Jen and cheer her on in the marathon. Tomorrow I’m flying to Chicago - oh shit!  How am I going to manage a suitcase, a stroller, a car seat, a diaper bag, a handbag and a rowdy toddler?  No, seriously.  How?
