Charlotte wore me out. I had to take a nap. Idk how you guys do it!

Jen kindly looked after Charlotte for a couple of hours yesterday so that we could run some errands. Looking after a toddler is definitely a lot of work! They have the shortest attention spam I’ve ever seen and are experts at destroying your home in minutes!
I literally complained just yesterday to my colleagues about the fact we’ve had zero snow this Winter (the snowstorm in Oct doesn’t count) so I yelped with joy this morning!

This morning I packed Charlotte up and brought her across town to the backup daycare that my company provides (20 days per year at absolutely fantastic facilities). I rarely work on Fridays but this morning I had a meeting that really needed my attendance.

When I picked Charlotte up at lunch I realized they put stickers on the back of the children to help the staff remember names. This particular facility does only backup daycare so they have different children every day. When she spotted me she raced over, threw her hands around my neck and demanded that we GO GO GO, she threw one last backward glance to call out BYE!! She was definitely out of her comfort zone which I think is a good thing for her to experience. I think daycare is brilliant for all the social interaction it provides but OH BOY does it require a lot more work and organization to get Charlotte ready, packed and out the door. There was no leisurely hangout on the couch or smoothie making this morning, that’s for sure. I love having a nanny for so many reasons with the convenience/time factor very high on the list.

Anyway we’re back home and I’m breathing a sigh of relief that this hell-ish work week is behind me. I just put Charlotte down for a nap so it’s yoga pants, cup of tea and a book for the next hour or two. The laundry and messy apartment can wait.

Reblogged for all my book reading friends out there. I’m struggling to get into the book I’m currently reading so plan to download this one tonight (after I watch the first episode of Downton Abbey because I’m seriously late to the game on that).
heylaney:

There are a few things I know for sure (I must start my day with coffee and end it with chocolate; I would—quite literally—do anything for my son) and one of those things is that when Joy recommends something, we should all listen.
In addition to Divergent and Downton Abbey, amongst others, she recently recommended that book up there and oh, that book up there.
Just go to Amazon right now (or, you know, your local book store!) and buy it.
Yes, it’s technically about two kids with cancer. Yes, you will probably cry.
But it is in no way a weepy, overwrought book version of A Walk to Remember. Not even close.
It’s funny and poignant and smart and wonderful. [Note to Mom & JSL: Yes, I will let you borrow it.] [But I want it back.]
I can’t think of a better way to spend some time than in the company of Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace. Trust me, you’ll want get to know them too.

I didn’t make any New Year’s Resolutions but I did decide over the last couple of days to make more of an effort to pick up a real camera and take photos. I used to take so many photos of everything and somewhere along the line over the last year I stopped. And I’ve lost track of the numbers of times I have considered abandoing blogging entirely because I was just so bored with it. But then I was giving my blog a little makeover on the weekend and for fun I opened up various pages from years back to see what I did and what I wore and who I did it with. I loved reading it! It truly gave me the little kick up the bum I needed to give my blog the love and affection that it has been missing for the last year or so. I love recording these little snippets of our lives that will otherwise be forgotten.
So let’s begin shall we.
I snapped this photo of Charlotte on the weekend. Oh, and can I get all proud mama for a minute. Guess what she can do now? She can count! All the way to……two. Oh yeah, that’s right. TWO!

When I lived in Australia I would buy individual packs of different seeds and then grind them in a coffee grinder. A couple of months ago I discovered this product which does all the hard work for me. A mixture of ground flax seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, coconut, almonds, and pumpkin seeds. I put a tablespoon of it in or on everything - smoothies, breakfast cereal, cake batter, salads. It’s an easy way to get some Omega 3s on a daily basis. Thought I would share my find.
