I agree with everything below. You can’t just go round flying planes super low in Manhattan without fair warning. It’s just not cool. I did not live in Manhattan during 9/11 but even so, I have had moments of stopping everything I was doing to watch a plane go by my office building. Just in case.
Air Force One Backup Rattles New York Nerves (thanks, jhalickman)
I’d love to know who thought it was a good idea to fly a 747 followed by F-16 fighter jets at low altitude around lower Manhattan without telling anyone what was going on.
I work directly next to Ground Zero and my building was “unofficially” evacuated this morning. By “unofficially” I mean people were running around screaming “plane”, “run”, and “get out” over and over. And when a 747 and 2 fighter jets fly past your 40 story office window, you run. No alarms. No announcements. Nothing. Building security didn’t even announce anything after all was said and done.
The first official news I had regarding the cause of hysteria this morning was from the Internet. The fucking Internet.
Saying that people are infuriated over the lack of warning is an understatement.
This was a major fail of both the City of New York and Bloomberg.
Shame on you.Update: Bloomberg announced he was not told in advance and criticized the Defense Department and FAA for being secretive about the operation.
