Pasta Sauce

Oh, look at me - I’m a cook now!  Which means I try new things.  Jen has been raving about the Pasta Sauce recipe she found on Smitten Kitchen.  When I found out it has only three ingredients and simply requires you to bung it all in a pot and swish it around for a bit, I was sold.

Ingredient 1

Smitten Kitchen recommends the brand San Marzano.  And who am I to argue with her?!

Ingredient 2

Not the whole stick.  Just 5 tbsp.  Oh, and P.S. this whole ‘stick of butter’ thing?  Probably one of the U.S.’s best inventions.  When I first read a recipe that called for a ‘stick’ of butter I was so confused.  What is a stick?  Is it an empirical measure?  Or it is a metric measure that I’ve never heard of?  Back home I used to weigh butter.  WEIGH IT.  On little mini scales.

Ingredient 3

The onion gets cut in half and chucked in the pot for the duration of the cooking part.

The only downside is it needs 45 minutes to simmer.  The upside is that while the sauce was simmering away I fed Charlotte her dinner and put her to bed.  Multi-tasking!

I can attest to Jen’s opinion that this simple pasta sauce is indeed very yummy.  You can read the proper recipe over at Smitten Kitchen.  She too is, um, smitten.
