scenes-from-my-hood:
things i love: this book.  i have never loved a book the way i love middlesex.  it probably helps that the concept of intersex culture is one i’ve studied (i majored in queer studies in college) but this work of art is so lyrical that the subject matter is almost beside the point.  if you haven’t read it, and if you’re prepared to inhabit a web of interconnected lives that are foreign, and sometimes uncomfortable, and if you love books, you’ve got no choice but to go out, get it, make tea, sit, and begin the adventure. it is filled with rustic cabins in the woods, silkworms, romance, difference, and detroit. you will periodically feel a pain in your chest, and that pain is in your heart, and it will be worth it in the end.
This book is under my bed.  Under my bed because there is no more room on my bedside table.  I will hopefully start it sometime before 2011.
