Ditzi, be gone!

I was just having a Twitter ‘conversation’ with some bloggy friends who are also moms about the perils of coaxing toddlers to give up their beloved pacifiers.

We are currently on day 5 of life without the ditzi (pacifier). Charlotte used to get her ditzi at night, during afternoon nap time, in her stroller and in her carseat. And then starting on Friday night we went cold turkey. I thought our biggest problem would be getting her to sleep at night but so far that has been the easiest part of the transition. She admittedly talked to herself and her teddies for a solid 2 hours on the first night before falling asleep but that sure beats the hysterical screaming that I was expecting.

The major problem that we are currently facing is nap time. Oh boy, that’s proving to be tough. On the first day she screamed for an hour (we went in periodically to check on her and calm her down) before she finally fell asleep but then she only napped for half the normal time. Day two and day three resulted in lots of screaming and zero napping. Day two also involved removing all of her clothes & diaper and peeing in her bed. Fun times. She doesn’t actually ask for the ditzi – she’s smart enough to know it’s no longer an option. But I just think she has no idea how to fall asleep in the middle of the day without it.

I’m hoping the naps will work itself out over the next week or so. But if you have been through the same thing and have any tips I would greatly appreciate it!

When I dyed my hair dark brown just before Christmas I knew very quickly that I had made a mistake. It didn’t look that bad but….it just wasn’t me.

It’s taken some patience and more than a few lost strands of hair (over-dying your hair results in it breaking off in clumps) but 6 months later I’m finally back to my normal blonde self again.

As you know I don’t blog about my job or any of my clients.

But.

Today I will make an exception because I did something at work the other day with some of you in mind.

Remember the J Crew crushed glitter sandals that so many of you asked me about? The sandals that are sadly no longer available.

Well, J Crew just so happens to be my client.

And the CEO often gets on the loudspeaker to tell everyone that he is having ‘open office hours’ - a time when anyone can drop by with questions, suggestions, etc.

So when he announced open office hours the other day I threw down my pen and raced upstairs to his office.

I told him about the numerous compliments I’ve received on the sandals and whether there were plans to re-stock. I showed him a pic and within minutes he had someone in his office with a sample of the shoe. There are no current plans to bring it back this summer but he said he wanted prior year sales data pulled and if it was a hot seller then maybe they would bring it back.

So maybe, just maybe, it will be available again this Summer (although I doubt it so don’t get any hopes up!).

North Carolina took a big step back yesterday but thankfully Obama has taken a step forward. Last night I was very upset and for the first time wondered if we would ever have equal rights for everyone in this country. But this gives me hope again.
