Last Day of Work

Many days I get up and think to myself ‘I don’t want to go to work today’ and yet here I am on the last day of work feeling a little bit apprehensive about not working for 6 months. I know work should never define you but it is a huge part of my life and it’s going to be strange not working. I know I’m going to check my email and wonder why everything is running so smoothly without me! I looked around my desk yesterday as I was packing up and even though I know I will be sitting there again at the end of the year, I wondered how Charlotte will make me feel about work. Will I be DYING to get back to work after 6 months of being at home with just a baby and a dog for company? Or will I be distressed about not spending every minute of every day with my little angel? I have no idea.

I am on the cusp of a major life changing event - I am equal measures excited and apprehensive.

Yesterday

I had a ‘worst day ever’ at work. It was totally crazy. I didn’t eat lunch until 2.30pm. I almost tore my hair out with frustration. And I didn’t finish until 2 hours later than I had planned. Adding to the work stress was a full hour of wondering why my baby had not kicked all day.

Today

I am having a ‘best day ever’ at work. I caught up with a bunch of colleagues I haven’t seen in ages and enjoyed being oohed and aaahed over. I’ve had a quiet hour at my desk catching up on some stuff. And now I’m heading down to the Standard Grill for a client lunch. Doctor appointment later this afternoon and breastfeeding class tonight.

I didn’t get morning sick.

I didn’t get fat.

I didn’t get overly tired (after my first trimester).

I didn’t get crazy cravings.

I didn’t get heartburn.

I didn’t get swollen feet, hands, or face.

I didn’t get anything bad.

I was like my normal self, albeit with a baby bump.

But I would be willing to swap all of that for a baby that was currently facing head down.

Going to the OB this afternoon for a scan to see what she’s up to in there. Hopefully she has wiggled her way into landing position.

We went to watch some basketball at Madison Square Garden last night. It was the Big East thingy (in case that means something to you).

When John went to use the restroom I waited outside with his beer. I greatly enjoyed all the double takes and stares I received from the people walking past - their eyes flicking from the beer to my bump and back again.

"Wow she’s really pregnant. Like TEN months pregnant. Can we take a photo of her?"

I bought a box of All Bran from the corner store last night because it appeared to be the only one that wasn’t laden down with sugar.

I happened to glance at the ingredients when I got home.

Second ingredient: Sugar.

Third ingredient: High fructose corn syrup.

And then another million or so ingredients of crap after that.

Digging through my bag for gum and I found two Ferrero Rochers that I forgot I had. Isn’t that the best?

We went to an open house yesterday for a new apartment building in our neighborhood. They they had a bowl of these. So I ate two and took two for the road. I LOVE ferrero rochers.

It was a phenomenally beautiful and mild day in New York today.

Some might say, a pinkberry-frozen-yoghurt kind of day.

Now that I’m 8 1/2 months pregnant I really just wanted to go home after brunch and put my feet up but staying inside on such a beautiful day is verboten in my books. Instead I sucked it up and we went for a long (albeit slow) walk with the dog. I was exhausted by the time we got home but definitely worth it to spend some time out and about in the Spring-like sunshine.

We need to learn some nursery rhymes

I ate this last night at Mermaid Inn. Well, I ate half of it. My poor squashed stomach doesn’t allow me to jam in food like I usually do. A lovely meal with a lovely friend, Jen.

I wanted to take her out for a yummy dinner to say thank you for organizing an amazing baby shower and, more importantly, being such a great friend to me throughout my pregnancy.

Special thanks to Sarah for loading her blog with mouthwatering dishes that help me select restaurants to try out in NYC!
