Daily Outfit - Fancy Date Night

On Friday night John and I had a special date night at our favorite steak restaurant in the city, Del Friscos.  It’s quite a pricey place so we only go when one of our employers is paying!  This time John’s boss was picking up the tab as a reward for John being generally awesome at work in December.

I haven’t had a fancy date night in ages so I wanted to make an effort.  I opted for my wrap dress - you know, to show off the cleavage!

I’m wearing:

It was freezing on Friday so I threw on my Isabella Oliver Woollen Trench.  I was quite pleased with my outfit given my limited maternity closet offerings.

Both of the items I am wearing are currently on sale at Isabella Oliver (as well as a bunch of other stuff).  It goes without saying that one of your first purchases when you find out you are pregnant is a good quality wrap dress.  I swap out boots for a pair of heels or flats and add a cami underneath this wrap dress and BAM I have a work outfit too.

One week ago I blogged about Juicy Couture denim leggings and how I would be buying them if I wasn’t pregnant.
Well lookey lookey!
I’m totally rocking the Juicy denim leggings!  I simply went one size up.  A little Christmas present for myself :-)

Maternity coats

Being pregnant during the Winter can be expensive because you need to shell out money to buy a Winter coat that fits around your ever-expanding bump.  First, I bought this puffer coat from Gap before I was showing so that I would be prepared for any unexpected snowstorms.  Now that I am showing I look like a big fat Paddington bear when I wear it.  But it is super cozy and perfect for when I’m happy to be completely casual.

When I was in Paris, I stared boggle-eyed at the amazing coats and boots and dresses and everything.  I came back wanting a second Winter coat that I could wear to work and when I wanted to look a little bit more put together.  Thanks to the Pregnant Fashionista I found out about a Thanksgiving sale at Isabella Oliver.  This store has gorgeous clothes but prices that mean I don’t even bother perusing.  However, the Thanksgiving discount brought down the price of this woollen trench to a more affordable level.  I still look like a big fat Paddington Bear but I don’t think there’s any getting round that at this point!

Maternity jeans

I have a whole list of things I want to blog about but I would rather crawl my sciatica-affected body into bed and read a book.

So I will write this very quickly in case anyone makes the same mistake as me.

I blogged about two pairs of maternity jeans over the last month or two.  I think I said at the time that I liked them both.  I may even have used the word love.  I was wrong.  I bought the Paige skinny (all lies, not skinny at all) and the JC Penney skinny (way too big on top and very poor quality).  Both crap.  Don’t buy.  The end.

My current thinking?  Jeggings aka denim leggings - similar to what I blogged yesterday.  I’ll keep you posted.  When I’m not so lazy and hopefully pain-free*.

* I’m open to pity.  Please provide.

Daily Outfit

We went out for dinner a couple of nights ago and I immediately knew that I would be donning my new faux fur gilet (that I bought in Paris).  I think I’m going to wear this a lot over the next couple of months because……not matter how fat I get it will fit!

  • Faux fur gilet
  • Target maternity top by Liz Lange at Target - if you are pregnant please run, don’t walk, to buy these tops.  They are so soft and only $15.
  • JCPenney Skinny Jeans - I will give more info on maternity jeans on a separate post
  • Jimmy Choo boots

And the side view.

Daily Work Outfit

Wow, how long has it been since an outfit post?  Now that I don’t fit into most of my clothes I tend to wear the same few things over and over again so I generally don’t have anything new to show you.

I found these photos on my camera from earlier in the week.

  • Banana Republic wrap dress - a pregnant woman’s best friend.
  • Jimmy Choo boots

And the side view!  Can I let you in on a secret?  I wore this dress on purpose.  I had training in my office and knew I was going to see a number of colleagues that I hadn’t seen in ages so I wanted an outfit that showed off my bump to its fullest!

I love being pregnant and I especially love showing off my bump.  I’ve never felt so comfortable in my own skin.

Reader Katie alerted me to the Fashion Herald website that blogs about shopping in Herald Square.  If you click the link above it will take you directly to her co-worker’s posts that are all about buying maternity wear in the area.  Two things I have learned - H&M has amazing maternity wear at their 34th St branch and JC Penney (yes, JC Penney!) has fantastic skinny jeans for $40.
And guess who has a client in Herald Square that she needs to go to tomorrow?
(Imagine my hand raised).
I can’t wait to go into H&M during my lunch break!

This maternity dress is from H&M.  I must have it.
I went into H&M on Fifth and 51st on my way home from work yesterday but they don’t seem to have a maternity section.  At what point will H&M step into the 21st century and start selling online?
I went and had a look at the Jimmy Choo for H&M stuff while I was in there.  The shoes are really nice.

I won the October raffle at my pre-natal yoga studio.  What did I win?  Maternity underwear!  I got home last night to find a box filled with the most hideous underwear I have ever laid eyes on.
LOOK AT THIS!
They are granny panties on steroids!!
